As we prepare for Hooplandia 2026, we’re picking the team captains that will lead the way, so we present to our newest intern, Anthony Ardolino.
Like basketball, Ardolino was born and raised in Springfield, Mass. In May of 2024, he graduated from Pope Francis Preparatory School, and he is now a sophomore at Springfield College, where he studies sports management. He is part of an intramural basketball team on campus with peers and friends.
Athletics are a long-time love of Ardolino’s. He played organized basketball from ages 4 through 15. Joining the Hooplandia team this past spring was a no-brainer for him—he’s always enjoyed sports, and he loves finding opportunities to give back to Springfield for all that it has provided him. This past June, he played a critical recruitment role on the street team and helped as a score keeper during the tourney. Now, he is the head of the promotional team.
“My main responsibility will be to make sure the street team events are properly staffed,” said Ardolino. “I also need to maintain merchandise inventory and promotional materials to ensure that events run smoothly.” The street team has a presence at Hoop Hall, the Pioneer Valley Tip-off Classic and more. Hooplandia pop-ups at these community events are often the public’s first impression of our tournament and festival, and Ardolino helps to make sure we give a firm handshake. Additionally, he will assist the sponsorship sales manager with securing partnerships for backboards.
“My favorite part of Hooplandia 2025 was seeing our hard work pay off,” said Ardolino. “Watching players have a great time at the event I helped make possible was a great feeling.” As a loyal Boston Celtics fan, Ardolino was also enthusiastic about Brian Scalabrine’s presence, and hopes more NBA players like Jayson Tatum or the locally based Travis Best will be next to join the roster.
As the Northeast’s Ultimate Basketball Tourney + Festival with abundant connections in the basketball world, Hooplandia is a fantastic place for young professionals interested in sports management to get their career start. Ardolino tried out for the team. Will you?
