Hooplandia’s courts are a welcome mat laid for every kind of baller, drawing players from New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and well beyond the East Coast. In honor of 100 days to Hooplandia, our Hoop Scoop reporter chose to spotlight a team that has well over 100 miles worth of reasons to sign up for the Northeast’s Ultimate 3x3 Basketball Tourney + Festival: ATX.
In 2024, Hooplandia was thrilled to see the return of “ATX” all the way from their namesake: Austin, Tex. For this team, Hooplandia is a family affair; they are a tightknit group of multi-generational players composed of Michael Murray; his sons, Brooks and Blaize Murray; and his brother-in-law, Steven Howard.
“I grew up in Springfield,” said Michael when he met up with our Hoop Scoop reporter. “I’ve moved to Texas since then. Last year, when I heard about Hooplandia, I thought it’d be cool to play with my two sons. We did that last year and came back this year, and we’re having a blast!” He shared before running back on the court to finish his game.
The Murrays and Howard make Hooplandia an annual tradition and use the event to capitalize on family connections as they return to their New England roots. Their story remains a shining example of some of Hooplandia’s best qualities: its inclusive nature, its dedicated fanbase and the fervent excitement that fills its courts, year after year.
If you’re looking for a sign to text the family group chat and forge your own fun-for-the-whole-crew tradition, this is it. Limited-time, advanced discount registration is open now through May 26. For the first time in Hooplandia’s history, select adult divisions are eligible for $1,000 cash prizes, too.
